This Tsechu is the biggest and most spectacular of the Buddhist festivals faithfully celebrated in Bhutan, Himalayan Kingdom of the Dragon People. People flock to witness festivals dances and procession, dressed in traditional finery. They receive blessings and watch masked dances and colorful life dramas performed in the open courtyard of the huge Dzong (Fortresses). There is strong local beliefs that each festival attendee will gain and accumulate merits and presence at festivals will help wash away many of their past sins. Festivals are also an occasion for social gatherings.
